Juvenile Justice Ministry
A program of Itasca Youth for Christ that reaches out to "at-risk" teens.
What is the Juvenile Justice Ministry?
The Juvenile Justice Ministry (JJM) is a program of Itasca Youth for Christ that reaches out to “at-risk” teens. Many of these kids are on probation or are incarcerated in a detention center or a correctional facility in the area.
The director of the program, Duane Geisler conducts a bi-weekly program that seeks to spark kids interests in the spiritual dimension of their lives. Many are neglected, abused, isolated, confused and just plain angry. They are labeled as a nuisance or an inconvenience by many adults. JJM believes that these kids matter. In addition, help is offered to those whose families have crumbled, those who have sought love and affection in the wrong places or those who have made choices that have resulted in being adjudicated delinquent.
The Youth for Christ organization was asked to provide services for kids at the Itaskin Juvenile Center in Grand Rapids. The friendships that begin in this “lock-up” facility are continued following release back into the Itasca County area.
JJM offers hope to kids that find themselves in otherwise hopeless situations. Teens who are disenfranchised become a burden for the communities they live in. JJM addresses their needs and the complicated issues they face.
